X is closing Creator Revenue Sharing and making every creator reapply

Illustration for the X creator payouts reset story

X is ending its creator payout program as it exists today, and nobody is grandfathered in. Every creator has to reapply to keep earning.

The wind-down schedule

Starting August 7, 2026, X stopped accepting new enrollments into Creator Revenue Sharing. Existing members keep earning through September 7, with three final payouts: August 14, August 28, and a last one covering earnings through September 7, expected on or around September 11.

From September 8, existing members can apply for the replacement, the Original Content Rewards Program. Applying is the only route in.

The new bar

The qualification list is specific. Creators need an active X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business subscription, at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days with replies excluded, at least 500 verified followers, and an account in good standing held by someone 18 or older.

The impressions rule deserves a second read. Qualified impressions only count unique views from Premium subscribers on the Home Timeline, where at least half the post was visible. Reply impressions do not count at all, which quietly rewrites the strategy for anyone who built reach in other people’s comments.

Payouts run every two weeks. Applications are reviewed within three business days, applicants get one appeal, and a failed appeal means waiting 90 days before trying again.

Reposts, minimally edited content, aggregated compilations and cross-platform reposts do not qualify as original.

What the filter selects for

The mechanics point in one direction: X is narrowing the payout pool to creators who produce original posts that verified subscribers actually see in their main feed. The old program’s reply-driven earners are the clearest losers, since the surface where they built their numbers now counts for nothing.

Whether the 500,000 verified impressions floor works as a quality filter or simply as a way to shrink the pool is the open question, and the answer will show up in who clears the bar after September 8.
