Humanoid companion robots found their buyers faster than anyone expected: 13,361 orders, before a single unit shipped.

The launch and the number

At its 2026 Global Launch Event in Shenzhen on June 30, 2026, UBTECH introduced the UWORLD U1 series, which the company calls the world’s first full-size mass-produced ultra-bionic humanoid robot. As of launch day, cumulative orders for the series had passed 13,361 units. Pricing starts at 119,800 RMB, about $17,600, and the line comes in male and female versions.

The “world’s first” framing is UBTECH’s own claim, and the orders are pre-shipment commitments rather than delivered units. But 13,361 is not a forecast or a survey result. It is people who put money down.

The pitch is emotional, not industrial

UBTECH is not selling warehouse labor. The stated use cases are daily companionship, emotional support, reception and hospitality, elder care, tourism and education. The platform combines biomimetic skin, embodied AI hardware, an operating system and emotion-driven language models. The launch ran under the theme “Endless Love,” which says as much about the target market as the spec sheet does.

UBTECH is not alone in the category. DroidUp’s Moya, unveiled earlier in 2026, keeps its synthetic skin at human body temperature, 32 to 36 degrees Celsius, with reported pricing around $175,000. At a tenth of that price, the U1 is the first serious test of whether companion humanoids can sell at consumer-adjacent volume.

What the order book actually measures

The debate this launch set off in China was immediate, and it is not really about the hardware. It is about what happens when companionship becomes a product with a delivery date and a warranty. Skeptics of embodied AI have long argued there is no demand for humanoids in the home. The U1 order book is the first sizable piece of evidence on the other side, and the next data point that matters is how many of those 13,361 orders convert into robots that stay in houses.
