OpenAI retires the DALL-E GPT from ChatGPT on August 30

The tool that started the mainstream AI image wave leaves ChatGPT today. OpenAI is retiring the official DALL-E GPT on August 30, and anyone with images saved in it has until the shutoff to download them.
What changes and what does not
OpenAI announced the retirement on July 31, giving users roughly thirty days of notice. Image generation is not leaving ChatGPT: the built-in ChatGPT Images feature replaces the old interface across all subscription tiers, and user-created GPTs with image generation enabled continue to work. What disappears is the original DALL-E GPT itself, along with easy access to the images stored in that interface. OpenAI’s own advice is direct: download anything you want to keep before it goes.
A quiet end for a loud name
DALL-E is the product that made “type words, get a picture” something ordinary people did, years before AI video or agents entered the conversation. Its farewell is a settings-page footnote and a migration notice, which is itself a measure of how fast the field turns over: the icon of 2022 is deprecated infrastructure in 2026.
The practical takeaway fits in one line. If there are old DALL-E generations sitting in that interface, today is the day to save them.

After OpenAI announced it would end Cursor's model access on a proposed date of November 12, 2026, Cursor CEO Michael Truell said OpenAI models account for about 5 percent of Cursor's AI traffic. OpenAI cited Elon Musk's history of breaking contracts, including ending Twitter's data-sharing deal with OpenAI and allegedly training Grok on other labs' model outputs. Musk responded that he could not care less. Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown called Cursor a trusted partner since Sonnet 3.5 and pledged to keep expanding Claude compute for Cursor.
