Google Pics brings Nano Banana image editing into Workspace

Illustration for the Google Pics Workspace story

The image model that made Nano Banana a household name now lives where office documents are made.

What went live

Google made Pics generally available on September 1, 2026. It is the Nano Banana image model packaged as an editing tool inside Workspace: select individual objects in an image and change them, fix or translate text inside designs, and upscale results to 4K. The rollout covers Slides, Docs and Drive for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

The distribution play

The capabilities are not new to people who follow image models. The placement is. Editing that previously required a separate design tool now sits one click away from the slide deck it is destined for, in front of the hundreds of millions of people who already live in Workspace. That distribution advantage, not model quality alone, is the lever Google keeps pulling against standalone design software.
