Andrew Garfield appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on September 9, 2026 to talk about Artificial, Luca Guadagnino’s film about the five days in November 2023 when Altman was fired and then reinstated at OpenAI. Asked how the role left him feeling, Garfield said he quit ChatGPT as soon as filming ended.
“It’s the same thing that happened to me when I did ‘The Social Network,’ which was I got off Facebook immediately,” he said. “I got off my ChatGPT immediately.”
He did not give a specific reason. “I don’t really know even how to explain why, but just the more you know, the more you just realize we’re careening into some very unknown territory,” he said.
The film
Artificial premieres at the New York Film Festival on October 5 and opens in select US theaters on Christmas Day. Garfield previously played Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network, the film about Facebook’s founding.
