Meta launches Seller, an AI app that writes Facebook Marketplace listings from photos

The app
On July 24, 2026, Meta launched Seller, a standalone iOS app for Facebook Marketplace sellers in the US, available to users 18 and over, with Android and web versions in testing.
The core interaction is a single step: upload photos of an item and Meta’s Llama-powered AI generates the whole listing. Title, description, suggested price, category, even shipping labels. The parts of selling that make people abandon a draft, writing copy, guessing a fair price, figuring out logistics, are the parts the AI absorbs.
More than a listing generator
Seller is not just a creation tool bolted onto Marketplace. The app syncs with your existing Marketplace listings and adds a seller dashboard: pending shipments, buyer messages, and per-listing views, clicks, and completed sales.
That dashboard turns casual selling into something with actual feedback loops. Marketplace has long been where photos of a couch go to be haggled over in DMs; a dedicated app with shipment tracking and per-listing analytics is the infrastructure of a real commerce platform, aimed at people who would never call themselves merchants.
Announced by Facebook head Tom Alison, the app is aimed squarely at making casual selling a one-photo workflow.
The strategic read
The interesting move is what Meta chose to automate. Rather than building AI shopping assistants for buyers, Seller attacks the supply side: the friction that keeps sellable items in closets. Every listing the AI writes is inventory Marketplace did not have before, and inventory is what keeps buyers coming back.
It also puts Llama to work on a task where “good enough” genuinely is good enough. A garage sale listing does not need frontier reasoning. It needs a decent title, a plausible price, and a shipping label, produced faster than the seller’s motivation evaporates.
