ChatGPT Health rolls out in the US and asks to connect your medical records
ChatGPT Health is live in the US, and it wants your lab results.
What launched
Since July 23, 2026, OpenAI is rolling out Health in ChatGPT to US users 18 and over on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans, on web and iOS. The pitch is a health assistant that actually knows your history: connect Apple Health and supported medical records, currently US hospital systems, One Medical, and Function Health, and ChatGPT can compare your labs over time, track medications, and link your sleep and activity to how you feel.
The inclusion of free-tier users is worth noting. This is not an upsell feature. OpenAI is putting health data connections in front of its entire US adult user base.
The promises attached
OpenAI says connected health data and those conversations are not used to train its models, and that Health is meant to support care, not diagnose. Both lines are doing heavy lifting. The no-training commitment addresses the most obvious privacy objection, and the support-not-diagnose framing is the standard boundary that keeps an AI product on the right side of medical regulation.
An awkward backdrop
The launch landed the same week as a lawsuit alleging ChatGPT gave dangerous medical advice. That timing sharpens the question the product raises anyway: the same system now being positioned as a careful companion for your labs and medications is simultaneously being accused, in court, of getting health conversations badly wrong.
The two things can both be true. A tool that reads your actual records may well give better-grounded answers than one improvising from a chat prompt, and that is presumably part of OpenAI’s argument for building it. But the stakes of a wrong answer scale with the trust users place in it, and connecting real medical histories is a large ask for that trust.
Would you hand your medical history to a chatbot for better answers, or is that a hard no? For millions of US users, the choice is now sitting in their settings.
