Developers testing GPT-6 Astra against Fable 5.1 call it a draw

Nvidia’s CEO says AGI has arrived. The developers who actually ran the model for a day are calling it a draw.
The declaration and the field tests
Jensen Huang posted on X: “From ChatGPT to o1 to Astra in 4 years. AGI has arrived. Congratulations @OpenAI team.” Over the same weekend, r/OpenAI and r/ClaudeAI filled with reports from developers running GPT-6 Astra and Claude Fable 5.1 on identical prompts, and the reports are considerably less ceremonial.
On the plus side: Astra is terser, its token burn is more predictable, and its usage limits feel roomier. On the minus side: it repeatedly forgot what it had just done, shipped a website redesign full of obvious spacing and copy errors, and on one stubborn bug would not commit to a plan. One software developer’s verdict: “I think Astra is as good as Fable, maybe even marginally better, but this is NOT a generational leap and certainly not AGI.”
The standout win
The most impressive verified-by-outcome report so far: Astra decompiled the embedded-controller firmware of an Acer laptop and fixed an aggressive fan curve the user had been attacking with GPT-5 Sol and Fable 5 since May. It identified the exact byte to write before writing anything, and the first write worked.
Why it matters
Benchmark charts and CEO declarations are marketing. Identical-prompt field tests are the comparison that transfers to real work, and one day in, they say: two very good models, no crown. The draw itself is the story, given the scale of the AGI claims attached to this launch.
